Thailand is country that lies in the heart of south-east Asia and most part of the country is surrounded by water bodies. Phi Phi islands
Over the years the Phi Phi islands have been famous among backpackers as a remote tropical paradise. Like many other places in Thailand it was discovered by the more resourceful tour operators who first built little huts then followed up with reasonably comfortable bungalows. Now there are several hotels, discreetly fitting in with the island scenery so as not to detract from its unique charm.
Krabi
The port of Krabi in southern Thailand, on a line with the island of Phuket, stands on a tongue of land close to where the River Krabi enters the Andaman Sea. It is set against a scenic backdrop of bizarre karst formations, rising out of the tropical forest while the landscape inland is dominated by mile upon mile of rubber plantations, with only the occasional patch of jungle. Palm-fringed white sand and shell beaches line the coast.
Pattaya islands
Pattaya is situated approximately 147 km (91 mi.) south-east of Bangkok on the Gulf of Thailand. Blessed with sun, sea and sand, it is the largest and certainly most popular seaside resort in south-east Asia. Its development follows the line of
bay, the approximately 6-km (4-mi.) long, heavily-used coast road runs between the beach and the numerous hotels. The area south of the town with Jomtien Beach is tourist-oriented.
Trang
The provincial town of Trang on the river of the same name is in the south of the Malayan peninsula, only about 20 km (12 mi.) from the Indian Ocean in an undulating upland area with extensive rubber plantations upon which the wealth of this busy town is
located. Many Chinese and Malays live here giving it the typical southern Thai atmosphere. On the Phattalung road is a large park with pretty lotus ponds and tall trees and palms.
